The Datta Lab is part of the basic research division at Emory University's Department of Ophthalmology. We are dedicated to advancing our understanding of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with the ultimate goal of developing novel, affordable therapeutic interventions to control and treat this debilitating disease that affects millions worldwide.

Sayantan Datta, MSc, PhD
Assistant Professor, Emory Eye Center
Dr. Datta brings extensive expertise in ophthalmologic research to Emory University. Prior to joining the Emory Eye Center, he served on the faculty at the prestigious Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he began his career as a postdoctoral fellow in 2014.
Dr. Datta is a recipient of the highly competitive K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Grant Award from the National Eye Institute (NEI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), recognizing his exceptional potential as an independent researcher. He earned his PhD in Human Genetics, providing him with a strong foundation in the genetic underpinnings of ocular diseases.
